Andropause

(Male Aging)

What is Andropause?

Most people have heard of how women age and the term Menopause but did you know that men experience a similar processes as they age? This is called Andropause.

After 40, men’s testosterone levels will decrease. As this happens, several physical changes can occur:

  • Loss of muscle mass and strength

  • Increased body fat, particularly around the abdomen

  • Reduced bone density

  • Slower metabolism

  • Reduced mobility and joint stability

  • Lower energy levels

Without regular resistance training, these changes can accelerate over time.

However, the body remains remarkably responsive to the right type of training at any age.

Why Strength Training Matters After 40

Your body is changing, your training should change too

Many men notice that their body begins to change as they move through their forties and beyond.

Strength may start to decline, recovery takes longer, body fat becomes easier to gain, and the energy levels you once relied on are not always there.

One of the major reasons for these changes is a gradual decline in testosterone.

From around the age of 30, testosterone levels naturally begin to decrease each year. By the time many men reach their forties and fifties, this can start to impact muscle mass, strength, bone density, metabolism, and overall vitality.

The good news is that strength training is one of the most effective ways to slow and even reverse many of these changes.

Why Strength Training Is Essential

Strength training helps support the systems that naturally decline with age.

Regular resistance training helps:

  • Maintain and build lean muscle

  • Support healthy testosterone levels

  • Improve metabolism and weight management

  • Strengthen bones and reduce risk of osteoporosis

  • Improve balance, mobility and joint stability

  • Support cardiovascular health

  • Maintain independence and functional strength for everyday life

Strength training is not about lifting the heaviest weights possible. It is about training consistently, safely and with proper structure.
